New Delhi
India and Slovenia have expressed strong hope for the early completion of a balanced and mutually beneficial India–European Union Free Trade Agreement. This was shared during the 10th meeting of the India–Slovenia Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation held in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Officials from both countries reviewed the current trade situation and discussed ways to deepen economic ties. The meeting was co-chaired by Saket Kumar from India’s Ministry of Commerce and Peter Japelj from Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. Japelj also met Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal to talk about future trade and investment opportunities.
The Commerce Ministry said trade between India and Slovenia has been growing steadily over the past few years. This shows the strong and stable partnership between the two nations. Slovenia’s central location in Europe was highlighted as a big advantage. It connects Central Europe with nearby regions and can help India expand its reach across European markets.
Both sides discussed cooperation in many important sectors. These included agriculture, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, health, transport, energy, tourism, MSMEs, Ayurveda, and traditional medicine. They also spoke about working together in technology, innovation, and improving trade connectivity.
The meeting also included talks on the current global and domestic economic situation. Officials reviewed how changing world conditions are affecting trade and how both countries can support each other during uncertain times.
India reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong and long-term economic partnership with Slovenia. The focus will be on trust, shared values, and steady cooperation. The meeting ended with both countries agreeing to stay in close contact and move ahead with clear goals.
The ministry said this strong engagement will also help India strengthen its ties with the larger European region. It added that early completion of the India–EU FTA will open new doors for businesses, create jobs, and support growth in both countries.
