Police tighten probe as two key suspects caught in Chennai after days-long hunt
BENGALURU
The Rs 7.11 crore robbery case that kept Bengaluru’s police on high alert has inched closer to closure, with two more suspects arrested, bringing the total number of accused in custody to nine. The South Division police confirmed that the entire gang involved in the high-profile heist has now been apprehended and interrogation is underway.
The latest arrests took place in Chennai on Monday night, where Dinesh and Jinesh—who had been on the run since the incident—were tracked down. The duo, part of the ATM cash theft network, had fled Karnataka via Chittoor and Vellore in an attempt to evade capture. Police teams had simultaneously conducted intensified searches across both regions, suspecting that the pair were in possession of the missing ₹82 lakh.
Although no cash was recovered from the arrested duo, investigators revealed that the suspects initially misled them about the whereabouts of the money. To establish clarity, the police have now decided to jointly interrogate all nine arrested individuals.
Till now, authorities have managed to recover ₹6.29 crore in connection with the robbery. However, the fate of the remaining ₹82 lakh remains uncertain. Preliminary inquiries suggest that around ₹40 lakh may have been distributed among acquaintances, while portions of the amount were allegedly spent.
To aid the investigation, police have obtained the serial numbers of the stolen currency from the bank and are tracking financial trails. Meanwhile, the CCTV DVR from the ATM, which could provide crucial evidence, is still missing. Investigators suspect that the device was disposed of in the Chittoor forest area, and search operations are ongoing.
Police officials said efforts will continue until the remaining cash and evidence are fully recovered.
