SHIVAMOGGA

In a major step to strengthen the Kannada film industry, the Kantheerava Studio Corporation plans to establish a state-of-the-art studio in Shivamogga, announced Mohabub Basha, Chairman of the Kantheerava Studio Corporation. Speaking at a press conference held at Prathika Bhavan on Sunday, he said the move is aimed at expanding the studio network across Karnataka and supporting local filmmaking talent.

The corporation has received substantial demand from districts across the state, prompting the decision to set up the studio in Shivamogga. Officials have identified a suitable 25-acre plot along state and district roads, and a formal request has been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner for land allocation.

Shivamogga, known for its rich Kannada cultural heritage and talented artists, is expected to benefit from both indoor and outdoor filming facilities. The project aims to preserve the Kannada language, nurture artistic talent, and generate employment opportunities in the region.

The initiative also includes plans to establish studios in other central Karnataka districts, including Chitradurga, Davanagere, Chikkamagaluru, and Vijayanagara. The government has already allocated ₹5 crore in the budget for this purpose. Additionally, a Ramoji Film City-style facility is being constructed on 160 acres in Mysuru.

To promote Kannada content on digital platforms, the corporation has requested the Chief Minister’s approval to launch a dedicated OTT platform for Kannada films and television. The project has received state backing, and committees have already held meetings to finalize designs and plans. Basha emphasized that the initiative will globally showcase Karnataka’s culture and rural life while strengthening the language and film industry.
