MLA Somashekhar hails Indira Gandhi’s inspiring legacy

MLA ST Somashekhar praised former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, calling her one of India’s strongest and most capable leaders. He was speaking at the 108th birth anniversary celebration of Indira Gandhi, held near the Indira Canteen in Kengeri by local Congress workers.

During the ceremony, he laid wreaths at her portrait and helped distribute sarees and blankets to more than 500 poor residents and civic workers, saying her work still guides the nation.

Somashekhar said the contribution of the Nehru family to India’s progress is remarkable. He noted that Indira Gandhi played a major role in removing poverty, strengthening the economy, and improving India’s global standing. Along with leading the country, she maintained strong international relations and always placed national development at the center of her decisions. He added that she devoted herself fully to the Congress organization and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

He highlighted the famous 20-point programme introduced by Indira Gandhi, which focused on poverty eradication and welfare. Even today, he said, people in many villages remember how these programmes brought hope and support. Her honest service, disciplined leadership, and deep commitment to the nation continue to inspire today’s youth and Congress workers.

Local leaders and party members also attended the event. Among them were former Zilla Panchayat member Shivamadaya, Kengeri Block Congress President Mylasandra Nagaraj, Block General Secretary Santosh B.V., and Ward Presidents T. Prabhakar, Arun Kumar, Amrit Gowda, K.R. Murthy, Y. Krishna, Purushottam, and K.C. Sathish. Several women leaders including Parvati, Kantha, Padma Harish, Geetha, Radha, and Vidya were also present, showing strong support for the event and its message.
