In a shocking daylight robbery, a gang of criminals looted over ₹7 crore from an ATM cash van in Bengaluru on Wednesday afternoon. The daring heist occurred near Jayadeva Dairy Circle, leaving the city stunned.
According to police, the van, carrying cash for ATMs, was stopped by six to seven men in an Innova SUV. The robbers pretended to be officials from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and claimed they needed to verify documents. They threatened the staff, forced them into their vehicle, and drove the cash-laden van to Dairy Circle. The gang then abandoned the staff, including two armed personnel, and fled with the money.
The van, registered as GJ 01 HT 9173, had four staff members on board: a driver, two security guards, and a cash depositor. Police are interrogating them at Siddapur police station to gather details about the robbery. Investigators suspect the crime may have involved insider assistance, as the driver delayed reporting the incident and gave conflicting statements. Questions are also being raised about why the armed guards did not resist.
Authorities have launched an extensive investigation, forming special teams to track down the suspects. Over 50 CCTV footages are being reviewed, and road checkpoints across the city have been alerted. City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh confirmed that multiple teams are monitoring the control room and technical leads to identify and apprehend the criminals quickly.
Preliminary reports indicate that the gang had been plotting the robbery for several days, carefully tracking the van’s movements before executing the attack. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the hunt for the culprits intensifies.
The audacious heist has raised concerns about the security of cash transportation in the city, prompting authorities to review safety measures for armored vehicles and ATM cash deliveries.
