‘Repeated warnings were given whenever cases of violence against women, rape, and murder occurred, yet the government failed to act effectively’
BENGALURU
Legislative Council Member Keshav Prasad has strongly criticised the state government for what he described as a serious breakdown in law and order.
Addressing the media at the state BJP state here on Wednesday, he said the Chief Minister and Home Minister must immediately take firm steps to control the situation, or resign from their posts. He said that repeated warnings were given whenever cases of violence against women, rape, and murder occurred, yet the government failed to act effectively.
Keshav Prasad said the government’s statements lacked seriousness and that words must be followed by action. He pointed out that no officer was punished in the case where prisoners in jail received royal treatment. Instead, only a meeting was held. He also accused the government of weakening police morale during the recent stampede case. He said the government itself was responsible for the present situation and announced that he would launch a strong protest. He further shared figures showing a sharp rise in crime.
Retired IPS officer Bhaskar Rao, who also addressed the media, said crimes against women have risen since the present government took office. He mentioned the incident in Udupi where a camera was secretly placed in a women’s toilet and ignored. He also noted that groups clashed openly in front of the Vidhana Soudha, showing a complete collapse of law and order.
He added that an Israeli woman was raped in broad daylight in Hampi, and crimes against migrant workers were going unnoticed. Robberies and extortion, he said, were also rising. He criticised the government for not filling 25,000 vacant posts in the police department and said corruption in recruitment had lowered police morale. He also pointed out that the Mahila Suraksha App was not functioning properly.
