BJP attacks Cong over governance issues

Bengaluru

BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra strongly criticised the Congress government, saying that governance in Karnataka has collapsed. Speaking to the media, he said that the BJP has decided to fight both inside and outside the Assembly against what he called a corrupt and anti-people government. He said that instead of focusing on development work, the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and cabinet members are spending their time in Delhi. According to him, the Congress government has failed to keep the promises it made during the elections, leaving voters disappointed and feeling cheated.

Vijayendra said that a special programme was held today to mark the 100th birth centenary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He added that farmers and sugarcane growers across the state are struggling. Maize growers are also protesting because the government has not opened procurement centres, which has caused frustration among them.

He further demanded action against Kannada Development Authority chairman Purushottam Bilimale for his recent statement about Yakshagana artists. Vijayendra said the remark insulted not just the artists of the coastal region but the entire Hindu community. He said that such comments show the mindset of the Congress party. He urged the Chief Minister to immediately remove Bilimale from the post, saying that anyone who understands local art and culture would never make such a statement. He also said that everyone, cutting across political lines, should condemn this remark.

Responding to another question, Vijayendra spoke about former Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri’s corruption allegations against Speaker U.T. Khader. He said that Khader should resign to protect the dignity of the Speaker’s office, as the allegations have caused concern about the reputation of the position.
