HOUSEWIFE COMMITS SUICIDE
Hassan
A tragic incident unfolded near Ramanathapura in Arakalgud taluk of Hassan district, where a 29-year-old housewife, Mahadevi, allegedly jumped into a river with her infant child, ending her life. Mahadevi, originally from Karpuravalli village in Saligrama, had divorced her first husband and three years ago remarried Kumar from Seebihalli village in Arakalgud. During her second marriage, her family had given 100 grams of gold as part of the traditional dowry.
According to reports, Kumar had recently begun suspecting Mahadevi and subjecting her to verbal abuse and harassment. Unable to bear the continuous mental torment, Mahadevi had returned to her parental home 16 days ago. Despite this, Kumar continued sending obscene messages and harassing her. On a Thursday, Mahadevi encountered Kumar at the Hassan bus station, which led her to lodge a complaint at the Hassan Women’s Police Station.
Before taking her life, Mahadevi reportedly recorded a video and left a note stating that she could no longer endure her husband’s harassment. She expressed that her continued existence only brought suffering to herself and her family. She mentioned that Kumar had threatened her and her relatives repeatedly over the past three years, and that she feared for both her and her child’s well-being.
Family members conducted an extensive search for Mahadevi. On Monday, her body was recovered near Bettasoge in Arakalgud taluk. The incident took place in the Konanuru police station jurisdiction, and authorities confirmed that Mahadevi had jumped into the Cauvery River along with her one-and-a-half-year-old child. The child’s body has not yet been recovered. Police visited the site to carry out a detailed investigation.
