Sulluvadi poisoned prasada case: Bail to accused sparks protest

Chamarajanagar

Residents of Sulluvadi and the families of those who died in the notorious poisoned prasada tragedy have strongly opposed the High Court’s decision to grant bail to the prime accused. The incident, which occurred a few years ago at the Kichuguththi Maramma Temple near Martalli in Hanur taluk, Chamarajanagar district, had shocked the entire state after 17 devotees lost their lives from consuming poisoned prasada distributed during a temple event.

Following the recent court order granting bail to Immdi Mahadevaswamy, the main accused in the case, grieving families and local villagers gathered at the temple premises to register their anger and disappointment. As a mark of protest, the demonstrators symbolically burnt an effigy of Mahadevaswamy, expressing their deep anguish over what they described as an unjust decision.

Protesters argued that the tragedy had torn apart many families and left irreversible emotional scars, and therefore the accused should not be allowed bail under any circumstance. They demanded that the High Court reconsider its decision immediately and cancel the bail granted to the accused. According to them, releasing the prime accused at this stage could affect the ongoing legal proceedings and undermine the victims’ fight for justice.

The protestors vowed to continue their agitation until the authorities take necessary action to ensure that the bail order is withdrawn and the accused remains in custody.
