To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a “Unity Walk” was organized on Wednesday, inaugurated by Member of Parliament Govind M. Karajol near Kanak Circle on Holalkere Road. The ceremony began with floral tributes to a portrait of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, followed by the flagging off of the march carrying the green flag of unity.
The walk saw participation from My Bharat volunteers, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, athletes, and students from schools and colleges. Starting at Kanak Circle, the march proceeded through Sangolli Rayanna Circle, Gandhi Circle, Rani Chenamma Circle, Ambedkar Circle, and Madakari Nayaka Circle, culminating at the Onake Obavva District Stadium.
During the stage program at the stadium, MP Govind M. Karajol highlighted that Patel’s birth anniversary is being celebrated nationwide from October 31 to November 25. Various competitions like essay writing and discussions on Patel’s life and contributions have been organized to raise awareness among students.
Legislative Council member K.S. Naveen emphasized the importance of studying Patel’s life, acknowledging his key role in India’s freedom struggle and in integrating princely states post-independence. Other dignitaries present included Deputy Commissioner B.T. Kumaraswamy, District Youth Officer Snehalata, and notable personalities like K.T. Kumaraswamy.
