BSCC moots shelter homes for dogs

BENGALURU

Bengaluru South City Corporation (BSCC) Commissioner KN Ramesh has directed the authorities concerned to relocate stray dogs from public areas and set up separate shelters for them.

He also asked them to collect information about the stray dogs in public places like schools, colleges, hospitals, bus stands and sports complexes/grounds and take steps to capture and relocate them to shelters.

He said that the estimated number of dogs to be evacuated should be determined. It is also important to identify suitable places to build shelter for these dogs and identify competent NGOs to capture and manage dogs.

The authorities have been entrusted with the responsibility of vaccinating the captured dogs, nurturing them and providing them with necessary food and veterinary care.

The Commissioner directed the meeting to submit a proposal for allocation of funds for infrastructure development of these shelter homes.

‘Act in time-bound manner’

The authorities should give more importance to this issue, he said and asked the officials to carry out all the tasks within the stipulated time.
