In alignment with the Constitution’s principles of equality and justice, the Congress party has implemented reservation policies, empowering Dalits, backward classes, and marginalized communities to lead dignified lives, stated Congress leader Uday Shetty Muniyalu. He was speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Dalit Shakti Sammavesh’ held at the auditorium of Sri Adishakti Veerabhadra Temple, Gandhi Maidan, Karkala, jointly organized by Block Congress Karkala, City Congress Committee, and the City Scheduled Caste Unit.
Block Congress President Shubhada Rao emphasized that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Constitution eliminated social evils like untouchability and caste discrimination. He added that Mallikarjun Kharge, the All India Congress Committee President, proudly represents the Dalit community, reflecting the respect Congress extends to marginalized groups. Udupi District Spokesperson Bipin Chandra Paul Nakre highlighted that the Constitution grants every citizen rights, duties, and freedom, ensuring recognition within society’s mainstream.
Senior Congress leader and prominent Dalit activist Dr. Premadas said no other party has supported Dalits as Congress has, warning that the BJP is attempting to mislead Dalit voters for political gain.
The event also recognized nominees from the Karnataka government including Ramesh Pattonjikatte, Shobha Rane, and Manju Tellaru. Other dignitaries present included Udupi District Vice President Sudhakar Kotyan, Taluk Committee Head Ajit Hegde Mal, City Congress President Rajendra Devadig, Scheduled Caste Unit member Pratima Rane, Dalit leader Annappa Nakre, and various other local leaders. Meghana led prayers, while Devadas welcomed attendees, and Pradeep Beladi hosted the program.
