A citywide youth-led dialogue on climate action to create awareness among school and college students
BENGALURU
The Climate Action Cell of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is set to host the “Makkala Climate Action Sabhe–2025” on November 7 at Puttanna Chetty Town Hall, bringing together students from across the city to voice their ideas and solutions for a sustainable future.
This first-of-its-kind youth platform will empower school and PU college students to debate, innovate, and shape Bengaluru’s local climate action agenda. The initiative aligns with the GBA’s mission to build climate literacy and leadership among youth—encouraging them to propose actionable solutions in key areas such as water, waste, mobility, energy, urban greening, and resilience.
A total of 20 finalist institutions have been shortlisted for the final round, ensuring equal representation from all five city corporations. Participants will be evaluated on understanding, critical thinking, clarity of priorities, local relevance, and communication skills.
Discussions will focus on making Bengaluru a climate-resilient city, with young voices highlighting that “climate change is caused by energy production, not energy consumption, and environmental health cannot be commodified—because you can buy fruits and vegetables, but never clean air,” said Preeti Gehlot, Special Commissioner of Forest, Environment and Climate Change (FECC).
Gehlot added that Climate Action Clubs are vital drivers of change, and the vision is to establish such clubs in every school and college under the Bengaluru Climate Action Plan.
“With the first city-wide ‘Makkala Climate Action Sabhe’, we are proud to create a platform where young voices lead the dialogue. We warmly invite all educational institutions, civil society stakeholders, media, and the wider public to join us in shaping a greener, resilient future for Bengaluru,” said Preeti Gehlot, Special Commissioner, FECC.
