Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot called on law students to stay abreast of global and technological transformations shaping the modern legal landscape. Presiding over the 7th convocation of Karnataka State Law University in Hubballi, he said, “The world is witnessing rapid changes in digital technology, artificial intelligence, cyber law, and data protection. Along with mastering traditional laws, students must also understand these emerging challenges to remain relevant in the evolving justice system.”
The Governor emphasized that access to justice is a fundamental right of every citizen and technology plays a crucial role in strengthening it. He cited initiatives such as e-courts, online legal aid, and digital legal education as milestones in making justice more inclusive. “Law students should actively contribute to making our judiciary transparent, accessible, and people-friendly,” he said.
Referring to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision, Gehlot noted that law should be a vehicle for social transformation. “Dr. Ambedkar viewed law as an instrument of equality and justice. True justice is achieved only when everyone enjoys equal opportunities under the law,” he said, urging students to uphold democratic and constitutional values in their professional lives.
Addressing the graduating students, he advised them to balance intellect with integrity and empathy. “Lawyers don’t just argue cases; they strengthen justice, discipline, and trust in society. The community expects you to protect the rights of the marginalized and ensure justice for all,” he said.
Commending the university’s contributions to research and legal education, the Governor congratulated honorary degree recipients Justice (Retd.) S. Abdul Nazeer and senior advocate V. Sudheesh Pai, lauding their service to law and society.
