Complete the Kanteerava Stadium Stormwater Drain Work on Priority: Rajendra Cholan

The civic amenities must be provided properly and problems solved on priority for people to lead a peaceful, healthy life

BENGALURU:
Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan has directed officials to expedite and complete the ongoing stormwater drain (SWD) work at Kanteerava Stadium on a priority basis.

During an inspection of several areas within the Corporation limits on Wednesday, the Commissioner noted that waterlogging frequently occurs in and around Kanteerava Stadium during the rainy season. To prevent flooding, work is currently underway to raise the height of the SWD retaining wall. Cholan instructed engineers to ensure the project’s early completion and to avoid any further inconvenience to athletes and children using the stadium.

He further emphasized that potholes within the Central City limits must be filled immediately. Damaged roads are being resurfaced with asphalt, and officials have been told to take up bitumen work wherever required.

At Subrahmanya Shastry Road in Kumar Park (West) near Umesh Hotel, the Commissioner observed that drainage water was flowing onto the road, damaging the surface and inconveniencing pedestrians. He ordered immediate corrective measures to prevent further damage and restore the road.

Cholan also inspected roads around Vidhana Soudha, Minsk Square, Shivananda Circle, Cubbon Road, Cubbon Park Metro Station, Palace Road, Race Course Road, and Nripathunga Road, instructing officials to maintain them in good condition ahead of the monsoon.

The inspection team included Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Haridas, Superintending Engineer, Executive Engineers, and officials from the Stormwater Drain Department.

Commissioner’s Directive on Unauthorized Constructions

Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan instructed officials to identify and list all unauthorized constructions within the Corporation limits. He emphasized that such structures must be removed in a phased manner and directed authorities to prevent violations at the construction approval stage itself, ensuring stricter urban planning compliance.
