Civic Projects Delayed: Tushar Girinath Reviews Progress with 5 Commissioners

BENGALURU:
Several civic development projects in Bengaluru have been delayed as staff from the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) are currently deployed for the socio-economic and caste survey. To address the slowdown, Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department (UDD) Tushar Girinath convened a meeting with Commissioners of all five municipal corporations on Tuesday.

Girinath clarified that no regular review meetings were held in October since most civic personnel were engaged in the ongoing survey work. The meeting assessed project progress, identified bottlenecks, and discussed coordination efforts under the GBA framework.

Officials were also briefed on urban mobility plans and future city initiatives, as a delegation from Delhi is expected to visit Bengaluru to study its infrastructure model. “The upcoming Delhi conference isn’t about funding demands but discussions on public transport, regional rapid transit, and urban clusters,” Girinath noted.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s directive to fill all city potholes by October 31 remains unmet. Corporation officials attributed the delay to staff shortages caused by the survey and frequent rains disrupting roadwork.

Sources said Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar is personally monitoring city infrastructure works — including pothole repairs, construction delays, and public complaints — on a daily basis to ensure swift progress once staff return from survey duties.
