Ashwin Ruled Out of BBL15 with Knee Injury; Uthappa Replaces Him in HK Sixes

Chennai

Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been ruled out of the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL15) season with Sydney Thunder after sustaining a knee injury during training in Chennai. The setback also forces him out of the Hong Kong Sixes (Nov 7–9), with Robin Uthappa named as his replacement.

Ashwin, who retired from international cricket in 2024 and the IPL earlier this year, was set for his BBL debut in December. “While training in Chennai to prepare for the season, I hurt my knee. I’ve had a procedure, and the outcome means I’ll miss BBL15,” he shared on Instagram.

Thunder GM Trent Copeland said the team was “devastated” but hopeful of Ashwin joining later in the season.
