Ninasam theatre festival brings drama

Chitradurga

A vibrant two-day theatre festival, Ninasam Tirugata 2025, will be staged at the Basaveshwara Auditorium of Sri Murugha Mutt on November 7 and 8. The event is jointly organised by SJM Vidyapeetha, Rangasaurabha Kala Sangha, Deeveege Education Trust, and the Department of Kannada and Culture, Bengaluru.

On November 7 at 6:30 PM, the Ninasam team will present Hridayada Theerpu, a play written by international award-winning author Banu Mushtaq and directed by Dr. M. Ganesh. The play explores the complex emotional bonds between Yusuf, his wife Akhila, and his mother Mehaboobi. What begins as a domestic conflict soon turns into a deep human drama that questions family, love, and societal norms.

On November 8, at the same venue and time, Ninasam will stage Avatharanam Bhranthalayam, a Kannada adaptation by N. Damodarashetty of G. Sankar Pillai’s original play, directed by Shankar Venkateshwaran. Set inside a mental asylum, the play offers a bold meta-theatrical experience where the stage rebels against its own conventions. Through absurd humour and thought-provoking chaos, it challenges traditional theatre structures and celebrates creative freedom.

Director K.P.M. Ganeshayya invited citizens, students, theatre enthusiasts, and cultural lovers of Chitradurga to participate and make the Ninasam Tirugata 2025 performances a grand success. The festival will feature live performances and symbolic stage presentations reflecting the essence of modern Kannada theatre.
