Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized that eliminating social inequality is the foremost duty of every politician. He was speaking after unveiling the statue of former Chief Minister Devaraj Urs in the premises of the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

Highlighting Urs’ visionary leadership, Siddaramaiah said that he was a true champion of the downtrodden and the underprivileged. “Urs opened the doors of the Vidhana Soudha to the most marginalized sections of society. He believed in giving opportunities to those historically denied them,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister stated that Urs worked tirelessly to uplift the backward classes and created opportunities that enabled many to join the social and political mainstream. His progressive policies laid the foundation for social justice and inclusive governance in Karnataka.

Siddaramaiah added that inequality was primarily created because education was denied to the majority Shudra community for generations. “Our government is committed to eradicating inequality by providing equal opportunities and promoting social welfare schemes that empower the poor and marginalized,” he said.

He underlined that education and talent are not the property of any one section of society — every individual has inherent potential. “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Valmiki, and Vyasa are shining examples of how talent and intellect emerge from all sections,” he added.

Siddaramaiah further reminded that Karnataka got its present name during Devaraj Urs’s tenure, and it was his government that celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the renaming, continuing his legacy of social justice and equality.
