Wisdom students urges action to resolve voter list confusion

Mangaluru

The 29th Profcon Global Professional Students Conference, organized by the Wisdom Islamic Students Organization, called for urgent measures to address public confusion surrounding the voter list revision (SIR). The meeting was inaugurated by former Deputy Commissioner and Profcon Reception Committee President A.B. Adoor Ibrahim (IAS) and presided over by Wisdom General Secretary T. Muhammad Shameel.

The gathering expressed concern over developments and allegations during the first phase of the voter list revision in Bihar, urging the government to act swiftly to restore public confidence. While the Election Commission clarified that the process aims to prevent fake and duplicate votes and include unregistered voters, opposition parties have accused the government of manipulating revisions to favor politically advantageous states — a charge described as serious by the forum.

The participants noted that frequent and exhaustive document verification during list updates burdens citizens. They suggested linking the voter list with Aadhaar to provide a permanent solution and prevent last-minute rushes to add names before elections. The conference also voiced concern that voters abroad and others might lose voting rights due to verification issues.

To ensure secular participation in every polling booth, the conference urged social and volunteer organizations to prepare for active involvement. Speakers included C.P. Saleem, Shameer Madini, Siraj Sajipppa, and others.
