Belagavi
The grand Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations in Belagavi took a dark turn on Saturday night as a group of miscreants stabbed five participants and stole over 300 mobile phones in just a few hours. Police reports confirm that victims filed complaints with Khadebazar, Market, and Camp police stations after the incidents.
The violence occurred during the procession at Chennamma Circle, where thousands had gathered to celebrate Karnataka’s cultural pride. In one area near Sadashivanagar’s Lakshmi Complex, a group of youths was dancing and participating in the festivities when 10 to 11 assailants suddenly appeared, armed with knives. The attackers stabbed five people—Raghavendra, Sachin, Lokesh, Mahesh, and Vinayak—targeting their backs, stomachs, and arms, before fleeing the scene. All the injured have been admitted to BIMS Hospital and are receiving treatment.
Alongside the stabbing, thieves exploited the crowded celebration to steal mobile phones. Over 300 phones, including popular brands like iPhone, Samsung, Moto, and Vivo, were reported missing between 7 pm and 10 pm. Police officials stated that many victims submitted complaints through mobile apps and later visited stations with copies of their reports to help trace the stolen devices.
Authorities believe the attackers specifically targeted young men and women enjoying the festivities. The incident has left residents shocked, as what was meant to be a joyful celebration of Karnataka’s heritage ended in violence and loss.
Police have launched an investigation to identify the culprits behind both the stabbings and the large-scale theft. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage and coordinating with local shops and businesses to track stolen devices.
Despite the grim incidents, organizers and authorities have urged citizens not to let the actions of a few spoil the spirit of Kannada Rajyotsava. Security measures for future public celebrations are expected to be strengthened to ensure the safety of participants.
