Udupi
In a spiritually vibrant start to one of the region’s most anticipated religious events, the office for the ‘Bruhath Geethotsava’ was inaugurated on Sunday near the Rajangana premises of Udupi Sri Krishna Matha by His Holiness Parayaaya Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji of Puttige Matha.
The month-long Geethotsava, part of the global “Koti Geetha Lekhana Yajna” and Geetha Jayanti celebrations, is a unique initiative conceptualised by Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji to promote the timeless message of the Bhagavad Geetha across the world. The festival will feature a series of devotional, cultural and educational programmes, including mass recitations, spiritual discourses, and competitions for students and devotees.
After lighting the ceremonial lamp, Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji addressed the gathering of volunteers and devotees. He expressed joy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been gifting the Bhagavad Geetha to world leaders and embodying its principles in public life, will visit Udupi on November 28 to offer prayers at the sacred Sri Krishna shrine. “This divine coincidence reflects Lord Krishna’s will. Let everyone work together to make this celebration a success and seek His blessings,” the Swamiji said.
During the meeting, it was resolved to organise the festival under the leadership of Sri Suprasad Shetty, who had earlier successfully coordinated the Sharadotsava celebrations. Diwan Sri Nagarajacharya urged participation from all sections of society to make the event a memorable one. Baikadi Suprasad Shetty called upon community organisations to support the festival in the spirit of unity and devotion.
Secretary Prasannacharya shared details about the Prime Minister’s forthcoming visit and invited devotees to attend the public events. The meeting saw participation from representatives of several organisations, including the Sarvajanik Sharadotsava Samiti, ABVP, Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Daivajna Brahmana Samaja, Rama Kshatriya Sangha, Udupi Taluk Mahila Mandali, Ayyappa Seva Mahila Mandali, Navachetana Yuvaka Mandala, and various other local youth and cultural groups.
