Police arrest five, seize over three kilos of ganja

In a major crackdown, police arrested five men for illegally transporting and selling ganja near Nyamati on November 1, 2025. Acting on a tip-off, authorities traced the suspects to a forested area along the road leading to Sri Kalbigiri Ranganath Swamy Temple near Honnali-Shivamogga highway.

Under the guidance of Senior Officers, including IPS officers Uma Prashant and Parameshwar Hegde, and Channagiri Assistant Superintendent of Police Sam Varghese, a team led by Police Inspector Ravi N.S. surrounded the suspects. They were spotted sitting near their motorcycles in a remote patch of forest. Upon checking their belongings, officers found ganja concealed in plastic bags and covers.

When questioned, the men admitted that they had brought the drugs from Shivamogga and intended to sell it in Nyamati and Honnali at higher prices.

The arrested individuals are:

  1. Arbaaz Khan, 27, works in a clothing shop, Shivamogga Town
  2. Shankarnayak, 29, daily wage laborer, Hosajoga village, Nyamati
  3. Mohammad Husnain, 23, daily wage laborer, Shivamogga Town
  4. Jafar Sadiq, 22, auto driver, Shivamogga Town
  5. Mohammad Rohit, 31, daily wage laborer, Ramanagara village, Shivamogga Taluk

Police seized a total of 3 kilograms and 154 grams of ganja, valued at approximately ₹3.2 lakh. Additionally, three mobile phones and two motorcycles used by the suspects were confiscated.

The Nyamati Police Station has registered a case under sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(B), and 29 of the NDPS Act (Case No. 295/2025).

Police officials praised Inspector Ravi N.S. and PSI Holabasappa, along with team members Manjappa, Malleshappa, Teerthappa, Vikram, Chandrashekhar, Nagarajanayak, Shivraj, Anand, and Channesh, for their prompt action and successful operation.
