Chaos at Old Age Home as Siblings Fight over Mother’s Body

Channarayapatna

In a distressing and emotional incident, a dispute broke out among five siblings over the body of their deceased mother at the Mathrubhumi Old Age Home in Channarayapatna taluk of Hassan district. The elderly woman, Parvathamma (80), hailed from Kavalikere village in Alur taluk, and had been residing at the old age home after being neglected by her children.

According to sources, Parvathamma’s children Manjegowda, Ramaswamy, Jayamma, Bhagya, and Indra, had allegedly failed to take proper care of her during her lifetime, forcing authorities and locals to move her to the Mathrubhumi Old Age Home for her safety and wellbeing. Despite repeated requests, none of the children reportedly came forward to look after her.

Tragically, Parvathamma passed away at the home earlier this week. Following her death, her children arrived at the ashram and began arguing over the custody of her body, leading to an emotional and chaotic scene. Witnesses described the situation as deeply distressing, with heated exchanges taking place among the siblings in front of the staff and other residents.

Authorities at the old age home intervened to calm the situation, expressing sadness that the woman, who had been left alone in life, became the center of a family conflict only after her death.

Locals condemned the incident, calling it a reflection of declining family values and the growing neglect faced by elderly parents. Police were informed to ensure peace and facilitate the completion of the final rites respectfully.
