Kannada Rajyotsava Celebration
Bengaluru
The 70th Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with great enthusiasm across Karnataka and other parts of the country on Saturday. The main state-level celebration was held at Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru under the aegis of the Department of School Education and Literacy.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah formally inaugurated the grand event in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa. The stadium was filled with vibrant colours, traditional music, and a jubilant atmosphere as thousands gathered to celebrate the state’s formation and cultural heritage.
This year’s Rajyotsava celebrations saw the participation of 1,700 government school students — a significant increase from the 1,100 who took part last year. Students performed a series of cultural presentations, including folk dances, patriotic songs, and tableaux showcasing Karnataka’s linguistic and cultural diversity. Two government school troupes received special appreciation for their performances, which added a distinctive flair to the day’s festivities.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah praised the students and teachers for their enthusiasm and dedication, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting the Kannada language and culture among the younger generation. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to improving public education and ensuring that every child in Karnataka has access to quality learning opportunities.
The Kannada Rajyotsava, celebrated annually on November 1, marks the unification of all Kannada-speaking regions into the state of Karnataka in 1956. Across the state, public offices, schools, and cultural institutions organized flag-hoisting ceremonies, folk performances, and community events to commemorate the day with pride and devotion.
