Fort City Festivities
Chitradurga
Chitradurga city, known as the land of forts, resonated with the spirit of Kannada pride as it marked the 70th Kannada Rajyotsava with grandeur on Saturday. The highlight of the celebration was an impressive procession featuring the image of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, which captivated the crowd. Among the many tableaux, the Horticulture Department’s display depicting beekeeping and honey production stood out — its buzzing bee model and realistic sound effects drew wide admiration.
Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh inaugurated the procession near the Neelakanteshwara Temple on Holalkere Road by offering floral tributes to Goddess Bhuvaneshwari. The Social Welfare Department’s tableau, showcasing welfare schemes for the underprivileged, won first prize. The Horticulture Department secured second place, while the Regional Transport Department’s display on school bus safety and electric vehicles received third prize. KSRTC’s tableau celebrated the record-breaking success of the Shakti Scheme, under which over 504.9 crore free bus rides have been availed by women since its launch on June 11, 2023.
The Education Department highlighted the mid-day meal program in mining-affected regions, while other departments—Women and Child Welfare, Industries and Training, Health, Backward Classes Welfare, and Tourism—showcased various government initiatives. Traditional performances, including Veeragase, Tamate, Dolu, and Lambani dance, added colour to the event.
The vibrant procession passed through major city landmarks before concluding at the Police Parade Ground, attended by several senior district officials.
