Kannada Rajyotsava, marking the formation of Karnataka state, was celebrated with immense pride and enthusiasm at Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru on Saturday. Organized by the Dakshina Kannada district administration, the event featured cultural performances, a grand parade, and the presentation of district-level awards. District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao inspected the guard of honour and felicitated 80 individuals and organizations for their achievements in various fields.

In his address, Minister Gundu Rao said Karnataka’s 69-year journey since unification showcases its unity, diversity, and steady progress. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a socially just and inclusive Karnataka through welfare-oriented initiatives that promote balanced regional development and improve citizens’ livelihoods.

Highlighting the success of Guarantee Schemes, he noted that in Dakshina Kannada alone, 5.51 lakh families have benefited from the Gruha Jyothi scheme, while the Shakti scheme has enabled 11.01 crore free bus journeys for women, saving Rs 373.81 crore. Under Gruha Lakshmi, 3.79 lakh women receive Rs 2,000 per month, and Anna Bhagya provides free rice to 11.76 lakh beneficiaries. Thousands of unemployed youth have also received financial support through Yuva Nidhi.

He further spoke about key development works — including housing, irrigation, and drinking water projects — and highlighted health upgrades like the new Cath Lab at Wenlock Hospital and a proposed Rs 90 crore OPD block. Educational reforms, the upgradation of 18 Karnataka Public Schools, and tourism development at Panambur and Tannirbhavi beaches were also noted.

The event, attended by MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, MLAs, MLCs, officials, and dignitaries, celebrated Karnataka’s unity, culture, and continued progress.
