Emphasizing the importance of linguistic and cultural pride, MLA S.T. Somashekar on Saturday said that every individual born in Karnataka should possess deep affection for the Kannada language and culture. He was speaking after hoisting the flag at a grand celebration marking the 70th Kannada Rajyotsava near Saleeh Building on 1st Main Road, Kengeri Satellite Town.
Addressing the gathering, Somashekar stated, Kannada pride should not be limited only to the month of November. Every Kannada-speaking person must carry love and respect for the language all 365 days of the year. He also highlighted the remarkable contributions of Kannada poets, writers, artists, and film personalities, noting that although some of them are no longer with us physically, their legacy continues to live on in the hearts of Kannadigas.
Bengaluru West District Congress Committee Vice-President Mohammed Saleh, who also spoke on the occasion, said that efforts should be made to teach Kannada to non-Kannadigas and spread awareness about the richness of the language. While other languages may be necessary for livelihood, we must never forget our mother tongue. It is our duty to preserve and promote Kannada, he remarked.
As part of the event’s social outreach, blankets were distributed to over 100 poor, destitute, and civic workers.
The celebration saw the participation of several dignitaries, including Bandemath Ward President T. Prabhakar, Minorities Vice-President Aman Ullah, Youth Congress President M. Arun Kumar, and local leaders such as Y. Krishna, among others.
The event reflected both cultural pride and social commitment, underscoring the spirit of unity and compassion that defines Kannada Rajyotsava.
