Iyer stable after Sydney scare

Health Report

New Delhi

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a Sydney hospital after suffering a serious abdominal injury during the third ODI against Australia on October 25. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Iyer is now stable and will remain in Sydney for further recovery.

Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding, which led to a laceration of his spleen and internal bleeding. Quick medical attention and a minor surgical procedure helped stop the bleeding. “He is now stable and recovering well,” the BCCI said in a statement, adding that medical teams in both Sydney and India are satisfied with his progress.

The BCCI expressed gratitude to doctors treating Iyer, particularly Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his Sydney team, as well as Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India. The board confirmed that Iyer will stay in Sydney for follow-up consultations before returning home once he is fit to travel.

In a message shared on social media, Iyer thanked fans for their support during his recovery. “I’m getting better every passing day and deeply grateful for all the kind wishes,” he wrote.

The 30-year-old batter’s absence is a setback for India, but the team management and medical staff are optimistic about his full recovery. His health will continue to be monitored closely before he resumes training.
