India has dispatched a consignment of Anti-Retro Viral (ARV) drugs to Fiji, reaffirming its commitment to health cooperation and humanitarian support for the island nation.
New Delhi
India on Saturday sent a consignment of Anti-Retro Viral (ARV) drugs to Fiji to support the island nation’s public health programme, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced.
In a post on X, the MEA said the move underlines New Delhi’s commitment to deepening health partnerships with the Global South. “India remains committed to supporting Fiji in its public health response and humanitarian needs,” the ministry said.
This initiative reflects India’s growing reputation as a reliable development and humanitarian partner in the Indo-Pacific region. Over the years, India and Fiji have built strong historical and cultural ties that now extend to key areas such as healthcare, education, renewable energy, and skill development.
During the visit of Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka earlier this year, both nations signed multiple agreements, including one for designing, constructing, and operating a super-speciality hospital in Fiji. The hospital will improve access to advanced healthcare services for Fijian citizens and foster medical cooperation between the two nations.
HLL Lifecare Limited, a public sector enterprise from India, has partnered with Fiji’s Ministry of Health to supply affordable medicines under the Janaushadhi Scheme. The two sides have also collaborated on standardisation, digital education, and skill-building projects. These efforts mark another step in India’s mission to promote inclusive growth and health security across the Pacific.
