Germany, Jordan and UK call for immediate ceasefire in Sudan war

Three foreign ministers jointly demanded a ceasefire in Sudan, warning of catastrophic violence after paramilitary forces seized Darfur’s last city.

Khartoum
In a joint statement issued on Saturday (November 1, 2025), the foreign ministers of Germany, Jordan, and the United Kingdom called for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan, describing the unfolding crisis as a humanitarian catastrophe. The appeal came after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) captured el-Fasher, the last major city in Sudan’s Darfur region, sparking widespread concern over escalating violence.

According to United Nations officials, RSF fighters have allegedly carried out large-scale atrocities in el-Fasher, including the killing of over 450 people inside a hospital, ethnically targeted executions, and incidents of sexual violence. Witness accounts, satellite imagery, and videos circulating on social media appear to corroborate the reports, painting a grim picture of mass killings and destruction. The RSF, however, has denied involvement in the hospital massacre.

The three ministers stressed that continued fighting would deepen the suffering of civilians and worsen an already dire humanitarian situation. They urged all parties to respect international law, protect civilians, and allow unhindered access to humanitarian aid. The ministers also called on the international community to unite in pushing for peace and accountability in Sudan.

The conflict, which began in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, has displaced millions and led to one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. El-Fasher’s fall to the RSF marks a critical turning point in the conflict, raising fears of further ethnic cleansing and instability across Darfur. International observers have warned that without immediate intervention, the violence in Sudan could spiral into a full-scale regional disaster.
