GBA Launches 100-Day Campaign to Convert B Khata Properties to A Khata in Bengaluru

Bengaluru

In a significant move aimed at regularizing properties and easing the concerns of property owners, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has announced that B Khata properties can now be converted to A Khata. To facilitate this process, the GBA has launched a 100-day campaign that began on November 1 and will continue until the first week of February 2025.

The decision brings relief to thousands of property owners who have been struggling with documentation and ownership restrictions. Bengaluru has around 25 lakh property accounts, out of which approximately 7.5 lakh are classified as B Khata. Owners of such properties have long faced difficulties, including the inability to obtain bank loans, building plan approvals, or property registrations due to their non-regularized status.

With this new initiative, the GBA has simplified the process, paving the way for B Khata holders to upgrade to A Khata through proper documentation and verification. Officials said that this step aims to bring transparency and uniformity to the property management system in Bengaluru while also increasing property tax compliance.

The campaign is expected to witness a large number of property owners applying for conversion, given the benefits of owning an A Khata, which include easier access to loans, legal recognition, and property development permissions.

The GBA has assured that help desks will be set up at zonal offices to guide citizens through the conversion process, making it faster, simpler, and more accessible for Bengaluru’s residents.
