Commercial LPG prices cut across Indian metros

New Delhi

State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) have reduced prices of commercial LPG cylinders across major metros started from Saturday, offering some relief to small and medium-sized businesses that depend heavily on LPG for daily operations.

According to the latest revision, a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 1,590.50 in Delhi — down by Rs 5 from the earlier price of Rs 1,595.50. Kolkata recorded the steepest drop of Rs 6.50 per cylinder, with the new rate set at Rs 1,694. In Chennai, the price fell by Rs 4.50 to Rs 1,750, while Mumbai’s rate declined by Rs 5 to Rs 1,542.

The reduction follows a Rs 15.50 hike in late September, which had increased costs for restaurants, hotels, and catering services. Although the latest cut is modest, it provides partial relief amid rising business expenses. Domestic LPG prices, however, remain unchanged across cities.

In recent months, commercial LPG prices have fluctuated frequently. In September, OMCs lowered the price by Rs 51.50 per cylinder, and before that, by Rs 33.50. Earlier revisions in July and June saw cuts of Rs 58.50 and Rs 24, respectively. Prices had stood at Rs 1,762 in April.

The government has also continued its social initiatives under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). During the festive season, the Centre announced 2.5 million free LPG connections to support poor households, furthering the goal of cleaner cooking fuel access nationwide.

Analysts say the latest price adjustment reflects easing global energy prices and aims to balance profitability for OMCs with support for India’s business and service sectors.
