India’s tennis star Rohan Bopanna has announced his retirement from professional tennis, ending a remarkable 20-year career that brought pride to the nation. The 45-year-old made the announcement on Saturday, shortly after playing his final match at the Paris Masters 1000 alongside partner Alexander Bublik. They lost in the Round of 32 to John Peers and James Tracy.
In a heartfelt social media post, Bopanna wrote, “After 20 unforgettable years on tour, it’s time I officially hang up my racquet.” Known for his powerful serve and skillful net play, Bopanna has been one of India’s most respected tennis players, representing the country in the Davis Cup and at the Olympics.
Bopanna’s career highlights include winning the 2017 French Open mixed doubles with Gabriela Dabrowski and the 2024 Australian Open men’s doubles, reaching World No. 1 at age 43. These achievements reflected his determination, hard work, and enduring love for the sport.
He shared memories of his journey from Coorg, a small town in India, to the world’s biggest tennis arenas, crediting his family for their unwavering support. “To my parents, my sister, my wife Supriya, and daughter Tridha – your love and strength carried me through every challenge,” he wrote. He also thanked his coaches, partners, and fans for shaping his career.
