BENGALURU
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has launched a strict campaign to curb public littering, taking an unusual yet impactful approach—by dumping garbage back in front of the offenders’ houses and imposing a fine of ₹2,000.
As part of this initiative, GBA staff have dumped waste in front of 218 houses whose residents were caught littering in public areas. So far, officials have collected ₹2.8 lakh in fines from violators.
In areas such as Ganganagar and RT Nagar, the civic body has targeted individuals who threw garbage in vacant lots. Karigowda, Chief Executive Officer of the Solid Waste Management Organization, has issued a stern warning to residents, urging them to maintain cleanliness and follow waste disposal norms.
In one instance, GBA marshals caught a woman red-handed while she was dumping garbage early in the morning. The marshals, stationed at the spot around 5 a.m., recorded a video of the act. Upon realizing she was caught, the woman immediately retrieved the garbage she had thrown.
Officials said such measures aim to instill civic responsibility among residents and deter habitual littering across Bengaluru.
