Vismaya Mohanlal, daughter of Malayalam superstar and Dadasaheb Phalke award winner Mohanlal, is stepping into the film world with Thudakkam. The movie, directed by Jude Anthany Joseph and produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas, officially began with a puja ceremony in Kochi on Thursday.
The event marked a proud moment for two well-known families in Malayalam cinema. Speaking at the ceremony, Mohanlal shared his surprise at both his children choosing acting careers. “When I was in Class 6, I won the best actor award, just like my son Appu. I never thought I’d become an actor or that my kids would follow me. My daughter’s name, Vismaya, means surprise, and she truly is one,” he said with a smile.
He added that while he would always support his children, they must carve their own paths. Mohanlal also joked that producer Antony Perumbavoor’s son, Ashish, who also stars in the film, makes it “not a family project.”
Producer Antony called the film a heartfelt project, while Vismaya’s mother, Suchithra, said it was an emotional day for their family. Director Jude Anthany Joseph said he felt “more nervous than Vismaya,” calling the experience surreal.
