The Siddaramaiah-led Karnataka government has announced this year’s Rajyotsava Awards, recognizing 70 distinguished individuals from various fields for their outstanding contributions to society. Notably, veteran actor Prakash Raj, IAS officer Siddayya, and noted Veena artist Penn Obalayya from rural Bengaluru have been selected for the prestigious honor.

Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi, announcing the list, said the selection process emphasized social justice and regional balance. This year, we have ensured that achievers from smaller communities are recognized. Our advisory and sub-committees reviewed over 2,300 applications and identified 70 deserving personalities, he said. Among the recipients are senior social worker Konanduru Lingappa and pourakarmika Fakiravva, representing grassroots efforts in public service.

Tangadagi added that six awards have been given for achievements in literature, while 13 awards were conferred upon women achievers. Only individuals above 60 years were eligible this year, ensuring recognition for lifelong dedication, he stated.

The minister highlighted that the state received 2,114 applications, and apart from those who applied, several individuals were identified and honored for their silent yet impactful contributions. We are committed to upholding social equity and honoring real talent, he said, emphasizing that the awards reflect the spirit of inclusivity and progress championed by the state government.

The Rajyotsava Awards, among the highest civilian honors in Karnataka, will be formally presented on November 1 as part of the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations. M Siddaraju, B.M.Haneef and Amshi Prasanna Kumar are among the journalists selected for this award.
