Ban on Unauthorized PGs: GBA Issues Stern Warning to Administrators

Strict action to be taken against unlicensed PGs violating safety and operational norms.

BENGALURU

The Bengaluru East Municipal Corporation has issued a strong warning to Paying Guest (PG) accommodation operators, directing them to obtain valid business licenses immediately or face closure. Officials said several PG establishments were found operating without authorization and in violation of essential safety, sanitation, and zoning standards.

Additional Commissioner of Purva Nagar Corporation, Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, said that during recent inspections, the civic body found multiple PGs functioning illegally in residential zones without proper permits. “We discovered serious violations — lack of fire safety measures, poor sanitation, and non-installation of mandatory CCTV cameras,” he said.

The official emphasized that such unregulated facilities pose serious threats to public safety and health, especially for women and students residing in these accommodations. To curb this, the Bengaluru East Urban Corporation has launched a special drive to identify and take action against illegal PGs operating within its jurisdiction.

All PG and hostel operators running businesses without valid licenses have been instructed to regularize their operations within seven days of the public notice. Failing this, the corporation will impose heavy fines and seal the premises.

The corporation has also urged citizens to report unauthorized PGs through helpline numbers or ward offices to ensure effective enforcement and safety compliance.

Additional Commissioner Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar warned that legal action will be initiated against any PG or hostel operator who fails to comply with the licensing requirements under the Greater Bengaluru Authority Act, 2024, and the Bengaluru Administration Act, 2024. Offenders risk fines, closure, and prosecution for violating statutory safety and operational norms.
