Former India skipper Rohit Sharma has achieved a career milestone, becoming the world’s No. 1-ranked ODI batter for the first time, following his majestic unbeaten century in the final ODI against Australia in Sydney. The veteran opener climbed two places to the top in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Batter Rankings, leading India to a commanding nine-wicket victory.
Rohit’s scintillating 33rd ODI hundred featured 13 boundaries and three towering sixes, as he shared a dominant unbeaten stand with *Virat Kohli (74)**. His consistency and aggression pushed him past Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran and India’s Shubman Gill, marking his long-awaited ascent to the No. 1 spot after spending nearly a decade inside the top 10.
Meanwhile, Axar Patel made notable gains in the updated rankings, climbing six places to 31st among bowlers and four spots to eighth among all-rounders, thanks to his impressive outing in Sydney.
Among bowlers, New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner advanced three positions to fourth, while Australia’s Josh Hazlewood rose to eighth. England’s Harry Brook also made strides, jumping 23 places to 25th among ODI batters.
The Test rankings saw significant movement too, with South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj surging nine spots to 13th after his match-winning nine-wicket haul against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Teammate Simon Harmer climbed 26 rungs to 45th, while batters Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi also improved their standings.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood moved up to 42nd, while in T20Is, South Africa’s Corbin Bosch and Pakistan’s Mohammad Nawaz and Saim Ayub registered strong upward movements across categories.
