India is ahead of schedule in achieving its renewable energy goals and envisions aggregating global solar demand while driving technological innovation and sustainability
NEW DELHI
President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said that by 2050, India aims not only to meet its clean energy targets but also to establish itself as a global hub for solar innovation, manufacturing, and knowledge exchange.
She was addressing the eighth session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital.
The President highlighted that India is ahead of schedule in achieving its renewable energy goals and envisions aggregating global solar demand while driving technological innovation and sustainability. The ISA stands as a symbol of humanity’s shared aspiration to harness solar energy as a source of inclusion, dignity, and collective prosperity, she said.
Calling on ISA member nations to think beyond infrastructure, President Murmu urged a people-centric approach that integrates solar energy with job creation, women’s leadership, rural empowerment, and digital inclusion. Our progress should not only be measured through megawatts but through the number of lives illuminated and communities transformed, she remarked.
She stressed that climate change remains a shared global threat and that India is taking concrete steps to combat it. Murmu underscored that the ISA represents a crucial platform for promoting solar adoption and cooperation among countries to achieve sustainable development.
Emphasising inclusive growth, the President said that India’s success in bringing electricity to remote villages reaffirms the belief that energy equity underpins social equity. Affordable and clean energy, she noted, empowers communities, fuels local economies, and fosters long-term growth.
Murmu concluded by emphasising the need to balance rapid solar expansion with ecological preservation. While expanding solar installations, we must ensure that environmental conservation — the very reason for embracing green energy — remains at the heart of our mission, she said.
