The district witnessed a grand celebration of the Kittur Rani Chennamma Jayanti and Veera Stri Award ceremony organized by the District Kannada Sahitya Parishat at the Suvarna Sabha Bhavan on Sunday. Speaking at the event, Savitri Sharanu Salgar, Tahsildar of Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation, emphasized that the courage, sacrifice, and ideals of Kittur Rani Chennamma, a pioneering woman of the Indian freedom movement, should inspire today’s women to incorporate these values in their daily lives.
She highlighted that Chennamma’s fight for the protection of her kingdom, her commitment to human values, and her enduring legacy remain relevant today. Women should overcome fear, embrace courage, and move forward in life with determination, she urged.
Vijaykumar Patil Tegaltippi, President of the District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, presided over the function and encouraged women to break societal limitations, take responsibility, achieve self-reliance, and manage their families efficiently. The event also recognized women achievers from various fields. Malati Reshmi, Chairperson of the Yadgir District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, along with state-level Kittur Rani Chennamma awardees Annapurna Sangolgi, Shakuntala Patil Jawali, Syed Naziruddin Muttavalli, and Mala Dannur, addressed the gathering.
Other dignitaries and awardees included Jyothi Kotanur, Jayshree Jamadar, Manikamma Jamadar, Vishalakshi Mayannavar, Kavita Kawale, Venkubai Rajput, Sukanya Kumsi, and several others. Social activists and educators such as former Deputy Mayor Nagaveni Tippanappa Kamakanur, JESCO AE Malini Swami, thinker Sharada Ogi, and Dr. Shanta B. Patil were also honored for their contributions to society.
The program combined celebrations of historical legacy with recognition of modern-day women leaders, inspiring the community to uphold courage, service, and social responsibility.
