India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, is scheduled to visit Brussels on October 27-28 as India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations reach a decisive stage. During his visit, he will hold high-level discussions with Maros Sefcovic, Executive Vice-President and European Commissioner for Trade, aiming to provide strategic direction and political momentum to the ongoing talks.
The discussions are expected to cover key areas of the proposed FTA, including market access, regulatory cooperation, and non-tariff measures. The visit will also serve to assess progress achieved so far, identify issues requiring further alignment, and reaffirm both sides’ commitment to a comprehensive, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade agreement. A bilateral meeting, followed by a working dinner, is planned, during which both leaders are likely to highlight the shared goal of strengthening the India–EU economic partnership.
This visit builds on the momentum from the 14th round of negotiations held earlier this month and underscores India’s determination to deepen engagement with the European Union, one of its largest trading partners. It also reflects the renewed strategic partnership between the two sides, highlighted during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, focusing on sustainable growth, innovation, and resilient supply chains.
The Commerce Ministry emphasized that Goyal’s trip marks a crucial step in translating this shared vision into concrete outcomes, paving the way for an agreement that supports economic growth, trade stability, and a rules-based global trading system. The visit underscores India’s proactive approach toward building a future-ready, mutually beneficial trade relationship with the EU.
