Budget worries loom over Balakrishna’s new project

Actor Nandamuri Balakrishna and director Gopichand Malineni are teaming up once again after their successful collaboration on Veera Simha Reddy. Their new film, expected to begin shooting in December, will be formally launched in the second week of November.

The yet-untitled project is said to have a historical backdrop centered on royal families. To achieve a rich, grand period look, the makers have planned elaborate sets and heavy use of visual effects. Aravind Kashyap, known for his work on Kantara, has been brought on board as the cinematographer to ensure striking visuals.

However, the team is reportedly facing budget-related challenges. With the OTT market shrinking for Telugu films, producers are struggling to secure strong digital distribution deals. Even big projects like Akhanda 2 have yet to finalize their OTT partners, as streaming platforms hesitate to pay the high rates being demanded.

Because of this, the makers of the Balakrishna–Malineni film might need to reduce their expectations for digital revenue. This could lead to a trimmed production budget, despite the film’s ambitious scope and scale.

While fans eagerly await more details, industry insiders say the team is determined to balance grandeur with practicality as the project moves forward.
