Priyamani cheers south cinema’s nationwide growth

Actress Priyamani, acclaimed for her performance in The Family Man, has expressed her excitement over the growing popularity of South Indian cinema across India. She noted that audiences are increasingly embracing films in regional languages, giving recognition to talented actors, directors, and technicians.

Speaking to India Today, Priyamani said, “I’m happy that people are finally sitting up and watching South films, accepting films made in regional languages as well. It was always there, but maybe the importance wasn’t given back then.” She highlighted that this trend is not limited to films alone but includes the entire filmmaking ecosystem. “Every language has made phenomenal films; they just weren’t spoken about earlier. Now, they are, and that’s great,” she added.

Priyamani also commented on the blurring lines between regional and Hindi cinema, expressing hope that this synergy will grow further in the future.

The actress, who has made her mark in the OTT space, discussed the creative freedom offered by online platforms. She explained that while mainstream cinema can sometimes typecast actors, OTT projects allow experimentation and diverse roles across series and films.

On the professional front, Priyamani is preparing for the release of The Family Man 3, once again starring alongside Manoj Bajpayee. Fans are eager to see her return in the highly popular series, which has gained acclaim for its storytelling and performances.

Her remarks reflect both optimism for regional cinema and the evolving entertainment landscape in India.
