Parappana Agrahara Jail under scanner over repeated visits of convict’s spouse

BENGALURU

Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru is once again under scrutiny after reports surfaced that a convict’s spouse was allowed repeated access to the jail, raising questions about preferential treatment and procedural lapses. Photographs showing the convict and his wife together inside the facility have gone viral on social media, reigniting debates over jail management and security protocols.

Despite mobile phones being strictly prohibited within the prison, it appears that certain inmates are still receiving privileges that circumvent the established rules. Senior officials had previously intervened to curb unauthorized privileges, but the recent incidents suggest that such measures have not been fully effective.

The controversy involves Sadik Ahmed, an inmate linked to a high-profile murder case of Marappa. Reports indicate that Sadik has allowed his wife into the prison multiple times, with some sources claiming as many as five visits. During these visits, she reportedly took photographs with Sadik inside the jail, which were subsequently shared online, attracting public attention and criticism.

Other inmates involved in the same case, including Rafeeq Ahmed, remain in custody, but Sadik appears to have been granted unusually lenient access compared to standard protocols for convicts. The viral images have drawn sharp criticism from citizens and prison authorities alike, highlighting concerns over transparency, equal treatment, and security within correctional facilities.

The Bengaluru Central Prison administration has yet to officially respond to the viral photos or clarify how these visits were permitted despite strict regulations. The incident underscores the need for stricter monitoring and adherence to rules within prisons to prevent misuse of privileges and maintain institutional credibility.

As the social media debate continues, authorities are expected to review existing procedures and ensure that all inmates are treated according to law, without favoritism or unauthorized privileges.
