Minister Zameer allegedly pressured PSI in popcorn trade dispute

Chikkaballapur

A controversy has emerged over Karnataka Minister Zameer Ahmed allegedly influencing a police investigation in favor of accused traders in a high-value popcorn supply case.

DN Ramakrishna, a resident of Digur village and a popcorn trader, supplied maize worth ₹1.89 crore to three Hyderabad-based businessmen—Syed Abdul Razak, Syed Abdul Akbar Pasha, and Nasir Ahmed, owners of HKGN Muskan Popcorn Traders. However, the Hyderabad traders allegedly failed to pay Ramakrishna for the purchase. Subsequently, he filed a complaint at the Peresandra police station.

During the investigation, PSI Reddy arrested Syed Abdul Akbar Pasha. According to reports, on October 13, Minister Zameer Ahmed reportedly called PSI Reddy, allegedly urging him to assist the accused and grant them additional time to make payments. This intervention has sparked debate over potential political pressure on the police and raised questions about fairness in the case.

Critics argue that such actions compromise the integrity of the investigation and send the wrong message about accountability in financial disputes. Local residents and traders have voiced concerns that political influence may favor powerful parties over ordinary citizens seeking justice.

Authorities have yet to comment on the minister’s involvement, and the investigation continues under PSI Reddy. Observers note that the case highlights broader issues regarding the role of political figures in legal matters, emphasizing the need for transparency and impartiality in law enforcement.

The controversy has triggered discussions on social media and local forums, with many demanding strict adherence to legal procedures without external influence.
