BENGALURU
In a proactive step to ensure the health and well-being of sanitation workers, the Bengaluru South City Corporation recently organized a dedicated health camp for Pourakarmikas in JP Nagar. The initiative was spearheaded by the Solid Waste Management Division in collaboration with local health authorities and medical professionals.
The health camp aimed to provide comprehensive medical check-ups for Pourakarmikas, including basic screenings, consultations, and awareness sessions about hygiene, nutrition, and preventive care. Officers and healthcare staff checked vital parameters such as blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and body mass index, while also providing advice on managing occupational health risks commonly faced by sanitation workers.
Commissioner of Bengaluru South City Corporation, who posted about the initiative on social media, highlighted the importance of recognizing the efforts of Pourakarmikas in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the city. He emphasized that their well-being is critical not only for their personal health but also for the overall efficiency of waste management services in Bengaluru.
Local residents and workers expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that such efforts demonstrate the city corporation’s commitment to employee welfare. Many Pourakarmikas who attended the camp received immediate guidance for minor health concerns and were referred for further treatment where necessary.
The city corporation plans to organize similar health camps across other wards and divisions, ensuring that sanitation workers citywide have access to regular health monitoring and essential medical services. Authorities also stressed the need for continued awareness and education regarding occupational hazards and safety protocols.
This initiative reflects Bengaluru South City Corporation’s ongoing commitment to supporting the workforce that plays a pivotal role in keeping the city clean, safe, and healthy, while reinforcing the importance of employee welfare in municipal governance.
