Former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai has accused the Karnataka state government of misusing its authority to target BJP parliamentarians as a cover-up for its financial difficulties. Speaking to the media in the city, Bommai claimed that the government’s order against the RSS would not hold in court, asserting that it violates fundamental constitutional rights, including freedom of speech, personal liberty, and religious and social freedoms.
Addressing questions on allowing other organizations to conduct processions, Bommai emphasized that every group has the right to assemble peacefully. He noted that courts have provided guidance to ensure processions are conducted without disturbing public order and that any government-induced confusion is unacceptable. Criticizing the government’s approach, he added that authorities were creating unnecessary disturbances instead of addressing pressing issues like rainfall relief and public welfare.
Responding to remarks by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on BJP MPs, Bommai alleged that the Congress government was using allegations against MPs to divert attention from its fiscal mismanagement. He highlighted that during the COVID period, the state received substantial central funds and that railway projects announced during the UPA tenure remained unimplemented, whereas his government had ensured greater fund inflows annually.
Bommai further questioned the Congress high command’s involvement, citing internal inconsistencies after statements by Legislative Council member Yatindra Siddaramaiah. He argued that the party’s focus appears to be centered around the Chief Minister’s family, raising doubts about internal decision-making within Congress.
