EJAE releases debut single ‘In Another World’

Singer-songwriter EJAE, known as the singing voice of Rumi in Netflix’s “KPop Demon Hunters,” has released her first solo single, “In Another World,” along with a music video. The animated film’s fictional girl group, Huntr/X, scored four Billboard Top 10 hits, and now EJAE is stepping into the spotlight herself.

EJAE, named one of Variety’s 10 Artisans to Watch in Songwriting, co-wrote the song with Ted Andreville and Breagh Isabel, who also produced it alongside Vitals and Daniel Rojas. Speaking about the single, EJAE said, “I’ve always been a songwriter. The only difference now is that people hear my demos in their final form. It’s exciting and scary because you are judged when showing your whole self.”

The lyrics were inspired by personal experiences, including a past relationship with her fiancé. EJAE explained, “It explores a parallel world where things could have been perfect. It helped me accept reality and grow emotionally. Music helped me get through hard times, and I hope this song does the same for others.”

The music video portrays EJAE revisiting her younger self, playing piano as a child and adult, symbolizing the different paths she could have taken. She added that she doesn’t want to be limited as a K-pop artist, seeing herself as a versatile songwriter across genres. More music is planned, reflecting her personal choices and stories people can relate to.
