MP Kageri Decries Salary Delays Pushing Workers to Tragic Ends

VishweshwarHegdeKageri slams government for 27-month salary lapses leading to despair; insists on prompt payouts and systemic reform to avert further loss.

Sirsi:

VishweshwarHegdeKageri, Member of Parliament, has voiced deep alarm over the dire circumstances faced by state and semi-government workers under the Congress administration in Karnataka, labeling the situation as inhumane and distressing.

Employees who rely solely on their salaries to sustain their livelihoods are being treated with extreme callousness by the state, which has failed to disburse their wages. This neglect has led to a heartbreaking series of incidents where financial distress has pushed workers to take their own lives.

Kageri expressed horror at reports of a librarian, a contractor, and a transport department employee either attempting or succumbing to suicide due to unpaid dues. Most recently,ChikoosaNayaka, a waterman in Chamarajanagar district, unpaid for 27 months, ended his life.

Kageri questioned how a family could survive without income for over two and a half years, unable to meet basic needs or fend off creditors’ pressures. He called it a shameful state of affairs that workers are driven to such desperate measures, reflecting the government’s administrative failures and inhumane system, which he claims, mirrors the state’s broader decline.

A time meant for lighting homes with joy, Kageri accused the government of extinguishing the very spark of life for its employees. He demanded immediate clearance of all pending salaries for workers in government, semi-government, local bodies, and various corporations without further delay.

Furthermore, he urged the creation of a permanent, timely mechanism to ensure wage disbursements are never again postponed.Warning of severe consequences if the government fails to act swiftly, Kageri questioned how many more innocent lives the administration would risk. He cautioned that without urgent solutions, the state could face grave repercussions in the days ahead.
